I just had the piston rings changed and the head rebuilt due to burnt valves. Now the car smokes like crazy. The mechanic said the piston rings need to set or seal- how long should I wait for this to happen before looking for other causes?

Hi mark amos,

A few hours of running time should reduce the smoking. It could be caused by residual oil in the exhaust system.

If the smoke don't decrease, you need to have the engine checked for valve seal and piston ring problems again.
