Hello,

i have a honda accord 1999 v6, automatic transmission.

background: I was going in for a smog check, and I failed the smog check.

code that is given is p04010 egr flow insufficient.

i take it to a repair shop, repair guy wants to run computer diagnositcs on the car. After countless tried, my car computer and his computer could not communicate with each other. I got fed up and went to the dealer after 5 hours of waiting, same problem, can't communicate with car. Dealer advises getting a new computer, and then after they install, they can figure it out. I said no, cause computer cost before labor was estimated at 900 dollars and no guarantee if that is the issue. Dealer said they must connect to the car computer to do anything.

i got irritated and went to the original smog tester of my car who gave me the egr code, I had him run the test again. This time he could NOT connect to my car computer either.

Any Advice? Please be detailed as possible, I am heavily auto "challenged".

thanks
mike

The OBD2 connection that they are trying to make could indicate a computer malfunction. But, I would start with the connector plug in the car. Look at the connector to see if any of the pins or connectors have been bent or are touching each other.

If you get things running again, I would have the EGR valve taken off and checked for leaking and they do build up and get clogged. Clean, repair or replace it.
