Hi there,
If you leave the clutch for to long, you run the risk of over loading the syncros in the gear box, that's at the extreme end of things. More than likely it will fail and you will be stuck on the side of the road on a wet cold night, won't that be fun. When replacing clutched on front wheel drive cars, apart from clutch plate, pressure plate, release bearing & machining the fly wheel, (most fwd cars don't use a spigot bearing) replace the drive shaft seals in the gear box, as you must remove the shafts anyway, if there is any hint of leakage fit new seals. Have a good look at the hydraulics for the clutch replace slave if any leakage is evident and flush the fluid. As far as cost goes, get a few quotes, ask friends who they recommend, dealers will cost more, but independent work shops will do a good job at a better rate, but they may not use genuine parts.
