This problem started slowly (about a month) - and then we let the car sit in freezing temperatures for two weeks. When returning for our car, we attempted to drive it over a few steep bridges in our area, and the problem got worse and worse until we could no longer accelerate up the bridge (and needed to be towed off). There was a strong burning smell. Now, the car does not respond to any gear being engaged. The engine will rev up, however, there is no acceleration. I am assuming this is a clutch problem? Is there anything else it could be? Clutch replacement? Any advice would be helpful! Thank you!

Hello,

You likely have a clutch that is burnt and possibly the bearing are faulty as well, that's why you cannot engage any gear.
Remember that a clutch is a wear item and needs to be replaced after a specific interval depending on the manufacturer guide and or driving conditions.
Also the flywheel needs to be resurfaced when you change the clutch. That way you can be sure that the clutch lasts as long as possible. Many parts stores or machine shops offer flywheel resurfacing services.

I have attached the complete clutch and bearing replacement procedures for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
