Is it possible that a heavy dousing of water over the hood of the car, could short circuit a computer board?

Leading to:

Is it also possible, due to shorting, or whatever else might go wrong, that a computer board would need to be replaced - and that would either reset the mileage on the car odometer to ZERO, or that the owner might have to advise what the odometer mileage was, so it could be "programed" into the new board?

I have never heard of this. I have a situation where I am being told this happened, and the person telling me has, potentially, a lot to gain (or lose) from this.

Is this even a possible scenario? That is, mileage gets reset and put to zero by dealer (or factory) or customer somehow offers evidence of where the mileage was - so as to remain relatively accurate?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Short of having the car submerged what you say just can't happen, this all looks some what suspicious, I would not be getting involved with this car.
