2001 Honda Accord Ball Joints

Took my car in for its 60,000 mile service and the dealer is telling me that I need new ball joints and that my car wouldn't pass state inspection with the ones it has. But my car passed its state inspection 2 weeks ago. Do ball joints really go bad that fast?

No, they wear out over time. If you passed test two weeks earlier then maybe the dealer was just suggesting that it is a possible of failing test. Nonetheless, ball joints are often overlooked but they should be maintenanced regularly like any other part of the vehicle such as brakes, so if the ball joints are worn then I do recommend replacing them as soon as possible.
