2001 Honda Accord EX Sedan V6
70K miles

The needles on the main gauges (tach, speed, fuel, temp) on the instrument cluster drop to 0. When the problem began it was a very fast flash, but now they are out for several minutes at a time. The odometer remains on most of the time, but does not advance while the needles are down. The odometer has gone out as well a couple times. The maintenance light flashes just as the gauges return.

Sometimes a bump in the road or a bang on the dash can cause them to go out or return. I have removed the instrument cluster and reseated the three connectors with no improvement. Are there other connections I should check?

The Honda dealer did an 'electrical system test' and suggested the issue was a bad alternator. It has since been replaced with no improvement.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
- Jesse

My civic had this problem. It turned out to be a faulty ground wire on the thermostat housing. The terminal has two or three (depending on the model) wires and with mine, one of the wires was not making very good connection. Something to try.
