Engine Performance problem
2000 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 197k miles

Hi I have a 2000 honda accord ex sedan 4cyl 2.3l sohc. Here's the case I had my spark plug replace but not the spark plug wires or distributor cap. I don't know if he gap them before placing them on. My car also needs a new air intake filter replaced its really dirty. And last it needs a new complete radiator because its starting to leak. Now here's the problem. My car dies often when I'm driving sometimes or when I make a very sharp turn and downshift. Somtetimes it die when I'm making a sharp turn and its on nuetral. When I'm at a stop light and I'm in neutral and the car is at a full stop the engine will rattle atiny bit and go away. What I mean by that is my rpm gos up and down alil bit and the engine as well does the same when the rpm gos down the engine rattles abit and when it gos up its ok but it usually go up and down when I'm at a full stop and it only gos up so far to 1 or 2rpm number it gos 0-1 or sumtimes 0-2 and from those two its jus go up and down and itsll just die. Sumtimes it help it abit when I have the ac on but just alil bit and only helps sometimes. What do u think is causing my engine to die? Oh by the way when the rpm gos up and down the oil leak light gos on for a sec and gos away and I don't have a leak.

Hi genelez05,

The idling system is not functioning correctly and the most likely cause would be the Idle Air Control valve and throttle body. Cleaning them would stabilises the idling and prevent engine from stalling.

When there is insufficient coolant in the cooling system, it can cause the IAC to malfunction resulting in the surging that you described.

What do you mean by oil leak light? Is it the CHECK engine indicator?

That should be the oil pressure indicator. Check oil level and if it is correct, you could have a fault with the oil pressure switch or lubrication system in the engine.

A fault in the lubrication system would mean bad news as it could be the engine is failing.
