My 99 Accord is experiencing hesitation, shaking and lack of power - but only at about 3500 rpm. Makes no difference what gear it's in, but it typically happens when I'm going up a hill or need to "downshift" to get more power. I was thinking of starting with the air filter. The 02 sensors probably need changed at this point too - could they be causing this symptom?

Hi julnjohn,

As the hesitation is rather predictable, it most likely is not due to the O2 sensors. A more likely cause would be the Vtec valve operatrions. Check the engine oil level and condition.

Is the Check engine Light indicating?

Yes. The check engine light is on - it has been due to the O2 sensors needing replaced (took it to Advance Auto a while ago and had them put the computer on it - it said the code was for the O2 sensors). I suppose since it's already on, it could be tripping for another reason too. I just had to sink $1,000 into it because the frame was cracked so I couldn't afford to replace the O2 sensors just yet. I replaced the air filter and that has not made any difference. NEVER had these kinds of problems with a Honda before.I will check the oil, but get it changed on a fairly regular basis. Thanks!

I will go and have it checked today - I did check the oil too and the level and condition look fine.

Thanks for your help - I'll let you know the code as soon as I can.
