The check engine light was on on a 1999 Honda Accord. My code checker said the only problem was an error code P1491 and my repair manual for this vehicle said that the "EGR valve lift was not sufficient". I removed the EGR valve and performed a continuity check on it that is described in the repair manual (check for continuity between terminals 1 & 2 and terminals 1 & 3 of the EGR valve). There was no continuity (i.E. The circuit was open) on both 1 & 2 and 1 & 3. The book said the EGR valve needs to be replaced so I put a new on. The P1491 code is gone but another code P0401 (EGR flow insufficient) has popped up. I checked the ports that lead to the EGR valve and there doesn't appear to be any significant carbon accumulation or blockage in the ports as far as I can tell. Any ideas what might be causing the P0401 error code? BTW, The car runs very well, both before and after the EGR valve was changed and I checked the continuity on the new valve and according to the manual, it checked out fine.
Thanks, Tom PS I'll have anoter question for you about another car shortly.
