My Honda has started stalling either when stopped or stopping at a light, or after having just shifted into drive from reverse. It only does this occasionally, and starts back up with no problem. The engine sounds as though it is running fine. Could it be a problem with the gas?

You may have a dirty/malfunctioning IAC (idle air control valve), remove and clean it.

Could also be a lockup solenoid in trans. Is sticking.

Generally if bad gas, the problem will be apparent at all engine speeds.

Start with IAC, it is s good starting point.

Just when driving this morning, I was going 45 mph when it started to stall again. It did not successfully stall at any time, but attempted to at least 4 times. So apparently it is not just an idling problem. Could it still be the IAC or does this change what the cause could be?

Yes it does change things.

Check fuel pressure with mechanical gauge and spark.

If pressure is OK, it could be an ign. Module or if VTECH, a malfunctioning solenoid or hydraulic issue with VTECH system.
