My 1999 accord with 110,000 miles. It is a 6cyl. It started making loud noice while driving. Idle there is no noice and the faster you o the louder it gets. The RPM's are good and it has good exceleration and no problem with the automatic transmission shifting. Brought to a mechanic and he said it was front wheel bearings. Does this sound correct? Also I called and the bearings are like 30 bucks a piece and he wants to charge me 500 for the job. How hard is this to do myself? What would I do?
Thank you for anyhelp you can give me. I don't have 500 dollars.

What is the noise sounding like? Is it a squeak, rattle, bang, or roar? I need more. Remember, the mechanic you talk to gets to hear the car, see the car, touch the car, smell the car.I think you get my point. I suggest you crawl under the car and check all of the heat shields to be sure they are TIGHT. Any thing loose will vibrate and the noise will be loud and hard to pinpoint its location. Are you sure it is not exhaust, such as the exhaust manifold?

The noice is like a constant roooooaaarrrr. But, the car runs. Its really weird noice. I will say it is hard to pinpoint because it only happens when your driving. It seems to me as if it is coming from underneath in the middle. I will check the heat sheilds and the exhaust manifold. What would I look for in the exhaust manifold?
Thanks for helping

You will need to take off the cover and it will reveal the ugly rusted looking exhaust manifold. Look at it for cracks. One thing I would try is to have a friend hold the exhaust pipe and cover with a heavy rag. The back pressure will amplify any exhaust leaks that are present. You are looking for leaks and any cracks in the manifold.
