Green Key Light Flashing

Electrical problem 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 258000 miles

A number of miles back the car had the ignition switch replaced because of the recall. About 2 years ago, we had the same problem where the car would not start and the green key light was flashing. We replaced the Ignition Switch again and just fine. Last night my daughter, who now uses the car, just went out and the car would not start. Cranks just fine. Just won't catch. The green key light was flashing again. This time I replaced the ignition switch myself. Guess what, did not start. Smelled gas though. There was no warning and it has been about 70 degrees outside. I read where the main relay may be bad. The green key light is flashing after trying to start and what I thought was strange is that we used two different keys. Both of which worked yesterday morning. Should I try the relay or get another key or am I missing something.

Hey DEEBUFFWAT,

These cars had big problems with the ignition distributors going bad. Remove the cap and check for rust colored dust inside and then replace the distributor with a rebuilt unit and the problem will be fixed.

Please let us know happens so it will help others.

Best, Ken

Green key indicator question. The light that shows the green key sometimes comes on. When it comes on car starts fine but when it doesn't car wont start.

It sounds like a security system problem. If you have a duplicate key, try using it to see if there is a change.

I dont have a duplicate. But once an a while when I am driving the cars stopped. So dont think its security issue. Maybe immobilizer. Or switch.

Not a factory alarm. I hate to say this, but for it to be checked properly, a dealer is the only one with the proper equipment.
