Wondering if a bad fuel regulator can make the engine stop after it has been running. My wifes car died about 2 months ago and after about eight hours of sitting snd me trying to get it started it fired right up. Today on her way to work the car died again and would fire up after sitting for an hour. I limped the car home over 2 hours. The car died once as I was on my way home. Now that it is home it fired right up again. I am just wondering if that may indicate a faulty fuel regulator.

Hi Johnloerop,

Thank you for the donation.

It is possible for the fuel prsssure regulator to cause engine stalling and non starting but not likely in your case as a fault would mostly have the problem and not intermittent.

When engine could not be started, you need to check what is missing, sparks or fuel. From the symptom description, the more likely would be electrical rather than fuel.

1. PGM-FI main relay. This operates the fuel pump and can intermittently fail, especiallty when the weather is warmer. Th efuel pump would not work.

2. Fuel pump. They can fail intermittently without any warning.

3. Ignition coil. Sometimes they fail when heated up and works after cooling down.

At bottom of this post there is a link " First Things To Check ". It provides an idea what to look for if the engine can be cranked but not starting.

Go through them and let me know what is missing so we can proceed from there.
