I just bought this '95 Honda for a commuter car. I tried to put gas into it, due to the gas gauge showing empty. When put gas in the tank the gas pump kept stopping as if the tank were already full. I only was able to put in about $4 of gas. I drove for about 70 mi and it ran out of gas. I again went to the gas station and attempted to fill the gas tank and the gas pump kept turning off and I had to spend 10 minutes putting $15 of gas into the tank to make it home. I want to know what would be the cause of this. A sensor, or fuel pump?

HI there,

Thank you for the donation,

This will be the fuel tank breather system or correctly called the EVAP system, this consists of a charcoal filter, vent lines valving and solenoids, it is a some what complex system and I would recommend that a qualified mechanic investigates it first hand in the first instance, get a report on the actual fault first then you may be able to do some of the work with our assistance, but I do need to know what part of the system is at fault first.
