Front rotor and caliper pads

According to a "mechanic" at a national tire repair shop, my 97 Honda accord left front brake is at a 30% rating and the right one is at a 80% rating. He recommends replacing both and says that the job is particularly labor intensive because of a pressed bearing.

Hello,

First of all, yes, this vehicle does have pressed on rotor/bearing and it requires the knuckle to be removed in order to get it replaced.

One thing to keep in mind that since you have such an uneven wear on the pads, it could be due to sticking calipers. Most of the time the calipers will stick due to brake hose having internal blockage. Which will not allow the brake fluid to go back thru the hose when the brake pad is released. That leads to the caliper sticking or releasing slowly. This can lead to uneven pad wear.

So, make sure the brake hose gets replaced with the caliper.
