1997 Honda Accord Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Automatic 112000 miles

When I remove the oil cap I feel blow by and the rpm of the engine drops slightly is that normal for a honda. I also checked on a friends honda which is a 96 and its the same thing so is that normal?

Hi there,

It is quite normal to feel a Little pressure when removing the oil cap. Positive crank case pressure is a natural occurrence with in engines, as for the rev's altering a little this is also not an issue as long as the revs are stable when fitting the cap, the engine is not designed to operate when open to atmosphere, it is a fully sealed internal breathing engine, you won't do any damage opening the oil filler, save splashing a bit of oil around.

Hi there,

If it is not excessive, there should not be a problem, faulty rings will increase blow by and increase crank case pressure, if at all concerned get a mechanic to have a look, this is one of those things that is a bit hard to diagnose with out seeing first hand, especially from 12,000 mils away!
