Engine Cooling problem
1996 Honda Accord 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

the car heats up when pulling a grade and coos back down when leveled out or going back down a grade. Could this be the thermostat and if so where is it located?

Hi larryeharding,

No, this should not be a thermostat problem.

Either you have insufficient coolant in system or the radiator is partially clogged.

You would have to remove the radiator for servicing.

Btw sorry I missed out something. Such conditions occurs when cooling eficiency is reduced due to insufficient coolant flow and a partially stuck thermostat can cause the problem as well.

To check if the radiator is clogged, remove the radiator cap and drain the coolant slightly to enable you to see the internal fins via the radiator cap neck. If there seem to be sludged, it is a sign of clogging.
