Double check those power and ground cable/connections. They do corrode over time and since you disturbed them, they may have cracked a bit.
If that checks out, make sure you have constant battery voltage at the starter (the stud/nut). With a helper cranking the key, the over smaller wire on the starter should have power while it is being cranked.
If that checks out, you need a starter.
