The car is fairly old and has a rebuilt engine with about 150k miles. Over the last few months it has been running rough not idleing properly, difficulty starting, overheating and oil leaks on the driveway. One morning it just wouldn't start. It turned over and sputtered (no smoke) but just wouldn't start. A few times I refused to give up and kept trying over and over until eventually it started but then started idling very rough and vibrating. This would usually last until I reached a higher RPM or a crusing speed then go away. Sometimes it would go away for good, other times it would come back at the lower RPMS. Eventually one day (again) it wouldn't start at all. So I took it into a mechanic and they told me that it had a blown head gasket and needed an o2 sensor. They didn't want to replace the head gasket because he said the engine was too old and the pressure from the new gasket would blow out the bottom end. I basically told him I couldn't afford that and to do whatever he could for as little as possible. So he said he did a coil or foil? Wrap? The car then ran well for about 2 months and then I started noticing a little trouble starting it in the morning and eventually one day it stopped starting again. Trying to avoid a big repair bill I did the only thing I could think of, replace the spark plug wires, replace the o2 sensor and I also replaced the PCV valve. I started with the Spark plug wires and started the car. I drove it for about 15 minutes. The car ran but still seemed to run rough at the lower RPMS however it didn't seem as bad. I then parked the car and continued to replace the PCV valve and O2 sensor. After replacing I then tried to start the car and it wouldn't start. I'm not real comfortable working on cars but I was trying to be resourceful. I have re checked my work and everything looks good. I don't know what could be causing the car not to start. When I turn it over it doesn't even seem like it is sparking? I hear the ignition turn over and when I push the throttle the start speeds up so I don't think its a EFI or fuel issue. The only thing I can think of is Spark plug wires or electrical? I checked all the plugs with my meter and they are all good. Please help!
