Engine has been running hot when in traffic or sitting for long periods of time. Almost starts running hot emmidiately when I turn ac on and car will sputter and die immediately if sitting still. Neither fan was working for about 2 months but not running hot very often unless the ac was on. I replaces fan timer relay and timer switch. I took to repair shop and they said everything was fine it was running perfectly and I asked if the radiator fans were kicking on they said yes. They said they let it run with ac on for about an hour. I found this very hard to believe but they weren't charging me to check it out so I didn't argue. When I got into the car and turned on the ac it went dead and neither fan was working. So I took to different repair shop and they ran computer diagnostics and said I had a bad conderser fan motor and idle air valve. And the cost would be $410 to replace fan motor and clean the Idle air valve. They said the radiator fan was working fine.I decided to buy a new fan motor and assembly off of ebay for $45 and replace it myself. Now condenser fan is working but I have yet to notice radiator fan ever running? It gets very hot under the hood and when I get oil changed they tell me it shouldn't get this hot. Why isn't the fan running? When I straight wire it, it runs but never when driving? Shouldn't it have threw a code on the computer diagnostic test? It has yet to run hot since I replaced the condenser fan, although I don't run the ac that much and it will not come on unless I turn the ac on. What do I need to fix to make radiator fan run like it is supposed to and get the condenser fan to kick on no only when ac is on? Sorry if I rambled on but I would love any advice. Thanks in advance!

Hi wes1,

The radiator and condenser fan both should come on together when the AC compressor is running. You need to check the fan relay and fan switch to finds which is causing the problem of the fan not working.
