I have replaced the ignition module and the coil two times the last four years to allieviate this problem. I did the last ignition replacement in April 08. 1/2/09 the car is doing it again. (Sometime starts, sometimes doesn't, sometimes shuts off while running)

Battery is great, alternater is good, plugs and plug cables are good.

I'm assuming the ignition is bad again. Should I assume the mechanic is replacing with generic parts when it should be genuine Honda parts, being that it seems a lot of people are having this problem? Please advise, thank you.

Hi goblette01,

If you have not checked the PGM-FI main relay, it is known to cause intermittent failing which fits the description of the symptoms.

KHLow2008,

Can I check the PGM-FI myself or do you need certain equipment?

Thanks for your help.

Hi goblette01,

You only need a test lamp and some basic tools to remove the relay. I usually just unplug the PGM-FI relay unit from its housing without removing any other things, however you need to remove the fuse be prevent accidental shorting it.

Check the relay circuit board for cold solders, especially at 4 points, 2 on each end. Resoldering them sould do the job if there are cracked.
