Stalls while driving

Hello. I bought it used. My wife was driving the other night and it just died. I thought at first it might be the Main relay. Nope. I replaced the fuel filter. Pump is working fine when turned on. I pulled a plug and it was covered in oil. I had my wife crank the engine while I grounded the plug off the valve cover gasket and there was no spark. I guess it could be the distributor or the igniter (don't know where the igniter is located). Does this sound reasonable? Or am I missing something. I would like to be able to test each of them before replacing since they are so expensive.

Thanks for your help!

I screwed around and wasted two days working on the main relay as most of the posts I saw listed that as a common problem for not starting. Like an idiot I resoldered the thing etc. And it still didn't start. Luckily I decided to go with common sense pulled a plug. Yep. No spark! Not sure where to go now as I don't want to spend $100 - $300 a shot just to replace something that didn't need replaced.
