Engine Mechanical problem
1993 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 160kms miles

hello. I've got a 1993 honda accord ex with 160,000 kms on it. Its been a great car, but recently its been acting funny. About a month back my thermostat needle went up almost to the top. I checked the coolant level, which seemed to be a bit low. Added coolant and the car ran ok, but the thermostat would rise from time to time. I don't see any signs of leaking or any coolant smell either. Then (and this is probably not major) my 'rear brake' lamp turned on. I looked to see if the rear lights work and they do.
so finally about 2 weeks ago, I was driving (50kms/hr) and the engine light went on( as well as the oil and battery light). I lost power and had to drift to the side of the road. I tried to start the car again, but it wouldn't. It was cranking just fine, but not starting. After waiting a few minutes I tried again and it worked.
kinda weird. So this happened to me about 4-5 times in a week. I've looked online for advice and seems that I need to get a diagnostic done, which I will do tomorrow.
but from all i've read, these kind of problems seem to be hit and miss. A bit frustrating, but I understand its complicated.
anyways, I was wondering if the above mentioned problems could be related and cause the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

I'm pretty confident in saying that these problems are not related. However, this is not a guarantee, but from what you are telling me it seems like you have a possible coolant leak, or faulty thermostat. And a engine management related issue causing the vehicle to stall (may be an ignition coil, fuel pump, etc)

Next time the vehicle stalls you should test it for fuel and spark while it does not start.

Thanks for the quick response.
Actually I just took the car to the mechanics this morning. Awaiting the result. But the advice you gave me is really good. Thanks. I'll post the results later.

So it seems that you were right. It was the ignition control module. But also I was leaking oil and my sparkplugs were getting wet from it. They will also replace the valve cover gasket to fix this. And as for the coolant loss, I have a tiny hole in a small hose. So that's that. They told me that I should change the sparkplugs, distributor cap and rotor, but their price was really high.I think I can manage to figure that one out.
Thanks for all the help.
