My car will not go in reverse, I know why. My friend thought it would be funny while I was driving to put my car in neutral going down I highway while I was driving. I then paniced and put my car into reverse by accident. I was going at least 45-50 mph, no my car just makes a loud clapping/snapping noise when I put it in reverse and of course it doesnt move anywhere in reverse, I can drive it in drive just fine. Am I looking at a very expensive repair?

Hi jopef13,

I have to agree with Docfixit, but I am surprised that the reverse would engage at such speed.
Honda trans are supposed to cut off reverse at speeds of more than 12 mph. You should have felt that it was in neutral when reverse was selected.

NOTE : While driving, you are not supposed to press the safety button when shifting from drive to neutral or vice versa. Just push the gear lever up or down from neutral to D4 or D3 without pressing the button, would have saved you the trans.

I believe it is illegal to drive in Neutral while going downhill.
