Hi,
The idea that the tachometer isn't working makes me think it could be related to a faulty crankshaft position sensor. When they begin to fail, heat adversely affects them. When they cool off, they work again. That would also explain the tachometer not working.
Holding the throttle to the floor is a technique that can clear a flooded engine. If there is no spark at first, this could happen. Do you ever notice gray smoke or a strong smell from the exhaust when it does finally start?
If I had the vehicle, the first thing I would check is for a faulty crankshaft position sensor. If that is good, then I would check fuel pressure drop-off to see if there is a fuel injector leaking.
Take a look through this link and see if you feel it mirrors what you experience. Also, note that a faulty crankshaft position sensor may or may not set a diagnostic trouble code.

If I had to guess based on your description, this is what I feel is the cause. However, look through this and let me know your thoughts.
Take care,
Joe
