Hard start It cranks but does not start?

If you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over, can you hear the fuel pump on in the tank for about 5 seconds? If not, we can use starting fluid to confirm it is a fuel problem. If the engine run, I would replace the fuel pump and the fuel pump relay.
