Hard shift from first to second gear

I tested and replaced the throttle position sensor. I scanned the truck again. The only code it is showing is the knock sensor. It is hesitating pretty bad. It just started doing that yesterday. It is still shifting hard. It started shifting hard when I put it in reverse and in drive. It shifts hard from first to second. All other gears are fine. Whatever is doing this just started.

Hi again:
Often times when the transmission slams into drive or reverse, it is caused by either bad motor mounts or trans mounts. Have you checked them?

Since you still have the same code for the knock sensor, you may want to replace it to see if the changes the timing enough to eliminate the hesitation.

My truck was shifting hard from first to second gear. I added some type of fluid to the transmission about a week ago. I was driving the truck last night, I noticed the hard shifting stopped. Should I change the fluid and filter again or leave good enough alone?

I would leave well enough alone. The friction modifiers in the additives are there to help prevent components from hanging up and to work smoother. Do not remove them.

I changed the fuel pump and filter the other day. Now the fuel gauge is constantly reading full. I pulled it back out to test it. It seems to be working fine but the gauge is not working. Before I changed the pump the gauge read half tank of gas but I actually ran out of gas leaving me stranded.

Welcome back.

Either there is a problem with the sender or the wiring. I attached a diagnostic chart for you to follow. It will indicate if the problem is the sender or in the wiring. Take a look through it and let me know what you find.

Take care,
Joe

The truck was leaking coolant from the heater core. I changed it out. Now there is no lights come on on the control panel for A/C and heater. Blower motor stopped working as well. I do not want to replace more than I have to.

Have you checked the basics, fuses, connectors? I have to be honest. I'm starting to get confused. Did you find the problem with the fuel gauge?

I checked the connections. One has constant power. Others have none. After I checked wire connections, the fuse blew two different times. I have fuses for it. I do not want to keep putting in fuses if they are going to just blow. I know there has to be a short somewhere. A hot wire is grounding to blow fuse. How do I find out where it is?

If you need to find a short, you have to start tracing wires. Since you just replaced the heater core, my guess is that you have pinched a power wire under the dash which is causing the fuses to blow. Start by retracing your steps when the core was replaced. Check all around the heater core box under the dash to see if anything is pinched. Also, remove connectors to make sure none of the pins got bent and are crossed.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

I found the problem with the A/C. A bare hot wire near the compressor was grounding. I repaired it and gas gauge is also repaired. I changed filter and transmission fluid again. It still shifts a little hard but not like it was. It shifts hard from first to second at times. Not every time I start going in it. So I will leave good enough alone for now.

As I asked about left turn signal light blinking fast, I was checking all the lights to assure they was all working when I noticed one in the front is burnt. Not the signal light bulb though. I believe it is the marker light or the running light. Would that cause the signal light to blink fast like it is? And one of the actuators clicks but it does not affect the direction the air is coming out of. Where ever it is set to come out of it comes out. A/C and heater both work. The A/C just needs to be charged.

Hi:

A marker light will not cause the signal to flash faster. As far as the clicking, the actuators have a small plastic gear inside. The gears have a tendency of stripping and then clicking. Eventually, it will fail and need replaced.

I found the problem with the heater. A shorted wire near the A/C compressor was touching which caused the fuse to keep blowing. I have another problem. I changed the heater core. Everything was fine until yesterday. I checked the anti freeze after returning from work yesterday. The coolant was almost empty. I flushed the cooling system out with Prestone coolant flush upon changing the heater core. I added Prestone coolant to the system until filled. There is no visible leaks, no coolant mixing with the oil. I am stumped. I cannot find where the leak is. I have changed everything I can and it is still leaking. Even the radiator cap. Like I said there is no visible leaks anywhere. Where is the coolant going? I know it has to be leaking but I just cannot find it. The heater core is not leaking.

Hi and welcome back:

I hate to ask, but I need you to start a new post. I was requested to keep each thread limited to one problem. Copy and paste the coolant issue to a new link and I will keep my eyes open for it.

I am sorry for the request, but I want to respect the owner's request. I hope it is not too much of an inconvenience.

Take care,
Joe
