Recently there was a snowstorm, I put my key into ignition and went to turn and it wouldn't move, I tried moving steering wheel and shifter and trying again nothing. I finally pushed a little harder and the key went forward car turn on. Got home parked, tried to start the car. In the morning and same exact issue. The only thing that worked was pushing the key a little harder for it to move. My friend suggested graphite powder in ignition to clean out, however some on the internet state it will mess with electronics. Is graphite powder safe to use in my car to lubricate the ignition?

Hello,

Graphite power can be used in the lock cylinder.
The purpose is to have smooth operation and not have the key stick as you turn it.

If you are having an intermittent starting issue, it could be due to worn ignition switch/lock cylinder.

Trying graphite can help, unless there are worn components inside the ignition switch.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
