Fuel Pump Question

I just bought an 86 suburban off ebay and I have been told that it has a problem with fuel delivery. I was told that it has a new mechanical fuel pump, but when driven at 65 or so it tends to bogg down. If the gas pedal is released and then applied again, it will work normally again. I was also told that it probably only needs an electric fuel pump. Does this make sense to anyone out here? If so, where would I find the fuel pump, is it an in the tank set up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike, as far as I know your mech. Pumps are run off a cam lobe and are located at the pass. Side, lower front corner of motor on chevys, elec. Pumps can be in tank. I would check the fuel lines and see if you have any kinks or crimps in it that could slow down fuel flow. Also, the fuel filter could be getting kinda dirty from what you described. You can get weak pumps right off the shelf from parts store, too. Even if it's new it might still be your problem. Do you have carb or throttle body? Maybe the carb could be part of problem, too. Just things to look at, hard to pinpiont like this but these are where I'd be looking first. Lottsa luck
