Ball joints

I was told that to change my ball joints on a 94 Yukon I needed a compressor or something to pop the balls into the socket, I was also told that I dont, but I would need to saw or drill out the old ones to replace them with new ones. Is this a job that I can do without any special tools and/or equipment? I really need them replaced but cannot afford the hundreds of dollars that the shops are asking for!
Please give me some suggestion, thank you.

Allthough I don't take them for gospel, Autozone's site gives you step-by-step on removal and they have a loan-a-tool program for specialty tools if any are needed. If the ball joints are factory with rivets then, yes you have to drill them out to remove them, but the new ones should go back in with nut and bolt. Hope this gives you enough to get you going. Good luck :D
