My name is Chris. I have a 1996 GMC Sierra C1500 P/U, Vortec V6 engine, auto trans, approx 115000 miles. Had it for about 3 years. Has always had a slight rattle in it, only in neutral or in gear(not in park)
Broke down recently, had to tow it. It still has the rattle, but now is worse and has a moaning sound with it. Took drive shaft out, checked output shaft on trans. I can move it in all directions. Is this a bearing problem or is the tranny shot. It still shifts fairly smooth, still has all gears, but I am afraid to drive it. Any suggestions? Please reply soon, either here or at c_townsley_enmu@yahoo. Com Thank you

Sounds like you have a thrust bearing going out in the trans.
