I just started noticing a small dull sound coming from my engine compartment. I traced it to the air compressor. It seems that the compressor kicks in for a second or two then stops. This is with the A/C turned OFF. It blows fine when turned on. I don't notice this when driving but when I'm at a red light, it clicks on and off about once per minute. Is this normal and I just never noticed it before or is something needing to be replaced?

Your low on freon is why its clicking so fast. When it compresses to too low of a pressure a low pressure cut out switch shuts off the compresser and then it will equalize and turn back on, only to turn back off again. Your ac compressor comes on with the defrost on so in the winter it stays working to prevent it from seizing. So to answer your question you will need to have it charged, then look for a leak, or unplug it and wait for the summer to repair it.
