1996 GMC Sierra V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

The truck began to act up by just stalling while driving. Then it began to not start, only to start 10 to 15 minutes later. Then it did not start at all but there was a clicking sound coming from the steering column eventhough it was turned off and the key was out of it.

Welcome to the forum, are you saying it cranks good but won't start or it won't even crank? I'm not sure about the ticking noise?

The car cranks and sometimes it will start. Then after turning it off it won't start again. I'm pretty sure the battery is suffering now.

When it refuses to start, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs, if you have good spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure.
