What temperature should the engine run at, read on the gauge?

Your thermostat should be fully open around 200 degrees, don't know what you gage might show? I don't trust gages on older model systems. If your familiar with your vehicle and where the temp gage usually sits, engine warmed-up, you should know if it is running hotter than normal? It could be issue with radiator--fan--water pump-- thermostat. I'm sure I left something out.
