Pontiac Clock Display

My Clock display in my 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix has gone out, I was told the only way to fix this was to get a different radio put in, is this true or is the a cheaper way of fixing it.

this is true if every thing else works fine.

Yeah...the display is the only thing that doesn't work, the radio/CD works fine
