1994 Other GMC Models Clutch problem

I have a 1994 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 and I just changed out the starter. I had to remove part of the clutch assembly to do that. When I put it back in my clutch would not go down. I forced it down now there is no pressure and the pedal will not stay up. I have broke something or do I just need to bleed the system? Thanks for your help.

What it sounds like is that something is not alligned up right. Check the clutch by the slave cylinder to see if the fork is pushing in. If it is then there may be a problem with the fork or throwout bearing.

I can push the fork toward the front of the engine but not back. I also just had the clutch replaced about 5 months ago. I found that by forcing the clutch down I broke the rod to the master cylinder. Will the tansmission have to come out to fix the problem?

You won't have to take the transmission out to disconnect the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal you have to remove the retainer clip and push out on the clevis pin
