I eventually manage to get the engine to start after a few seconds. It has new spark plugs and all.
The weird thing is, though, after I finally get it to start and I run it for a bit, it isn't that difficult to start it up within the next thirty minutes or so. So the routine goes that I try to start it up and it sputters a bit and finally gets going, albeit roughly. Then I can run it pretty well with a small rough idle. Then, if I stop and within the next thirty minutes or so try to start it up, it doesn't have that much of a problem starting up. But if I let it sit for a few hours, it has trouble again.
I talked to my uncle and he says it might need the fuel filter replaced under the idea that the clogged filter requires a little bit of coercing to get the flow going through it once more when I try to start it up.
I also noticed a small smell of gasoline when I was parking it today.
It only started recently after a slightly arduous trip through the city. Before, I had no problems starting right up, with vigor.
