Engine Mechanical problem
1989 GMC C1500 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Hello, I own the above vehicle and changed the head gasket and forgot marking the cap. Now we set everything and tried setting the timing by pointing the rotor at cylinder one well its at top dead center, but even thou it still does not seem to run. There is fuel there is spark and the compression is there. Im not sure where to go from there.

Im postive, we checked to make sure that is the TDC on the compression stroke, we have now adjusted the cap to point at cylinder one and have just went over the firing sequence to make sure its hitting the cylinders in order and still no running engine. We are going to try again to place it at TDC with the markers and check over everything for the 10th time.

Hey I just wanted to let you know that I fixed the problem and you were right. It was 180 degrees off, im sorry we figured the guy who helped knew his stuff and ended up didnt, We then re did it ourselfs and found that he used a coat hanger to try and find top dead center. Well what can we do, we figured it out and its running pretty nice, just need to send it to a friend with a timing light now and she should be purring like a mint, I would like to thank you thou for your advice. If it wasnt for you saying what you did I wouldnt have checked his method. Thank you I appreciate it.
