Was wondering if it was possible to take the 1.6ll out of my geo and replace it with a 2.2l motor out of a 95-97 cavalier. Geo motor blew and locked up and I have the cavalier motor just sitting spare. Wasn't for sure if there would be motor mount issues or issues with the tranny bolting up.

If the 2.2 was out of a 96 or newer, you would be dealing with OBDII engine management, not to mention motor mounts, wiring differences, transmission differences, Would probably be a nightmare.

You can replace the 1.6 with another 1.6 from 90-92 Geo Prizm or Toyota Corolla as a bolt in.
Just make sure you get the correct Federal or California engine. The Federal did not have EGR while the California did (the heads are different). Also make sure that you get the right engine, the 4AFE has one timing belt cam sprocket, while the 4AGE has two. The 4AGE is rare in the Prizm and only came in the GSI.

Alright, thats what I was afraid of. I kno that my 1.6l is a dohc efi, but I doubt that changes much between them. I'll recearch the Vin and find out what exactly mine is and what numbers/letters need to match up between the two. Thanks for yous help.
