Check fuel pressure with mechanical gauge, next check spark, look for blue snapping spark.
If above is OK, check mechanical timing on distributor (PCM must be in diagnostic mode).
Next check Idle Air control valve (IAC), by removing it and cleaning, then remove EGR and clean pintle and base.
Check condition of cap, rotor and wires.
