I just had the cylinder head (rebuild) replaced on my metro due to problems with the camshaft and valve body. Now a month later, approx. 1000 miles later, the car is stalling sporadically when put into drive or reverse, but when it was check by a local mechanic no error codes were present and the car would not stall for the mechanic. When the car was stalling the only way to get it to not stall when placing it into drive was to put on the gas excessively at the same time as I place it into drive. It was a big jerk, but it didn't stall. It almost acts as if there was a idle issue, but the mechanic stated that he didn't find any problems with the idle and no error codes indicated any problems. When I picked the car up from the mechanic, I drove it about 5 miles before it just died and would not restart. It seemed like it was not getting fuel, but there still was not any error codes. Could a clogged fuel filter cause this?

The other issue associated with the cylinder head replacement is that the car is going through a quart of oil every 500 miles. It did not do this before the head was replaced and the mechanic states there are not noticable signs of leakage anywhere. The mechanic who perform the work on the car stated that the cars piston rings are letting the oil by and it is being burned now. By replacing a cylinder head, how will that cause the car to suddenly need piston rings when it didn't need them before?

After much troubleshooting I have found the problem with my metro. The Fuel injector was going bad and has finally gone bad. Boy they are not cheap if you buy them new! Found some good sites online that sales injectors that are rebuilt and under warranty from anywhere around $90 up to $175. You an buy a new one for anywhere around $280 up to $700 depending where you buy it, so it pays to to search around.

I also found that the oil was leaking out the cranckshaft rear oil seal. The auto mechanic I took it to before must have been blind, stupid, or just trying to rip me off. Shoot, he couldn't even tell that my fuel injector was bad! This is one experience I won't forget!

There seems to be alot of problems with the fuel injector. I had the same issue. By the way, I found rebuilt fuel injector for this car (1997 Geo Metro 4cyl LSI) on Amazon. Com for about $45 bucks.

The was a recall on the Fuel Injector Wire Harness for this car because of bad connections. I wonder if this is causing the injectors to short out?

Going thru a rebuild now because of massive oil leaks (about 4 quarts a WEEK). But the leak started small and was there a long time. I wish I found your post earlier because maybe it started out as a crankshaft real oil seal like yours.

I hate dealing with mechanics. The answers I get are usually vague, way off or leads into alot of other possible problems and of course MORE MONEY.. And i've seen quite afew in my never ending quest to find a fair and knowledable mechanic. I'm more than willing to pay for this and they will be my mechanic for the rest of my life.

Thanks for posting you answer.
