1992 Geo Metro spark plug blew out of head

1992 Geo Metro Front Wheel Drive Manual

I was told by auto shop that the #2 plug "blew out" of the engine head. That the head would have to be removed and sent to a machine shop to be re-threaded at a cost of about $1300. This seems excessive to me. Any insight or reccommendations would be greatly appreciated.

first of all look at the plug, if the end is bent over, and the threads are wrecked on the plugs id definetely suspect something wrong with the threads and piston.

if plugs in good shape chances are the plug loosened up and it eventually rattled out.
