Hello, having to do a heater core on these is a long process, and when having to remove the entire dash, there are a number of bulk and component connectors that need to be unhooked. As well as the PCM and its connectors. If you don't notice any running issues (misfires, rough running, etc, ) I would be checking any connectors you see under the dash on the driver's side. With these older vehicles the wiring harnesses haven't been taken apart in many years, so if you have a problem that is intermittent, and coming and going it may just be a pin fitment issue in one of the connectors. Some mechanics are not too easy on these connectors. But check connectors that would have been disconnected for the dash to come out. Really the mechanic is the one who should be going through and checking them, because this is technically a comeback for him. The vehicle left the shop with a new problem that was not there before. If you want to check them yourself, you'll have to get to the back of the cluster to make sure that connector is properly seated. The bezel around the cluster, radio and heater controls has a couple of screws and if I remember correctly part of it snaps in place. I'll post a diagram of that for you. But when you check the cluster connector, find a pin or something the same size as the Clusters connector pins, and check the pins inside the harness side of the connector for pin tension. Make sure there is a slight drag on the female pins, if they happened to be spread when he was taking things apart, you'll end up with these come and go type symptoms.
There is a battery disconnect and 10-minute wait time for the airbag system to discharge the capacitors when removing the lower Steering Column panel, if you're going to take that section down. I recommend doing that just to be safe. Give it 10-15 minutes before disconnecting the Yellow(airbag) connector.
