I just changed the fuel pump assembly and the actual fuel pump has a different kind of connection but the assembly was the same connecting. It is not working is this because the fuel pump itself was different?

Good afternoon.

The connectors must be the same in order to work. Was there a kit to change the connector in the box?

What brand and part number did you get for the pump so I can look it up?

Okay, using a junkyard part is not a good idea for this. They sit for a long time and in that time they may become seized.

The difference is the connector and the reason is due to the engine type.

Can you post a picture of the connector you have and the connector on the harness?

Okay, you have the wrong pump.

Below is a link to rock auto. They sell just the pump.

Oh I think I get it, the pump itself has the same connection as the one I have that is wrong. So this new one will work for this engine?

Alright so I have looked up the pump itself and the ones I see on the rock auto site all have the same connection on the top as the one I currently have installed and not like the old one in the photo I sent with the two prongs. So is it still different, and if so can I use the current assembly which had the single connection fitting.

If the lines will reach and the electrical is the same, try it. Hook it up and before you bolt up the tank try it and see.

Okay maybe I need to reword my original inquiry.
I pulled a fuel pump, assembly and all, from a 1998 Ford Taurus and installed it in a 9198 Ford Taurus. I noticed that the top of the fuel pump itself has a different connection one has two prongs the other has a single plastic push in one. But the rest of the assembly is identical and all hoses and lines and electric connectors connect fine. I tested the pump and heard it working before I installed it but now that it is in I get nothing. I just want to know if I have a non-compatible pump in or if it could be something else before dropping this tank for the fourth time.

By prongs do you mean the electrical connections or the hose connections?

If it worked outside, were you hooked up to the car harness or an external source?

By prongs I mean the electrical connectors on the fuel pump. And I tested it by putting wires on my car battery then carefully touching them to the ground and hot points in the electrical connector in this picture.
