When installing new injectors does a retainer clip have to go back on? and will it sound like your truck's missing? Will it be weak on power if you don't put the retainer clips back on the fuel injector right underneath the fuel rail?

The clips are required to be installed to keep the injector from leaking fuel externally. If they are not there, then the injector could leak and cause a fire. It has nothing to do with the performance of the engine. Check out the diagrams (Below).

REMOVAL

WARNING:
- Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
- Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

1. Release the fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

4. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the illustration and table.

Item 4: Fuel Tube Spring Lock Coupling Removal Note

WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.

CAUTION:
- Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. It is therefore essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components. Always install blanking plugs to any open orifices or tubes.
- When reusing liquid or vapor tube connectors, make sure to use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the connector retaining clip area before separating from the tube.

1. Remove the safety clip from the spring lock couplings.

2. Install the special tool.

3. Close and push the special tool into the open side of the cage.

4. Separate the fitting.

5. Remove the special tool.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Items 9-7: Fuel Injector-to-Supply Manifold O-Ring, Fuel Injector and Fuel Injector-to-Intake Manifold O-Ring Installation Note

1. CAUTION: When installing the fuel injectors, make sure that the injectors are fully engaged in the fuel injector cups.

NOTE: Lubricate the new fuel injectors with clean engine oil.

Install new O-rings on the fuel injectors and install the fuel injectors.
