My Car wont start.

I own a peugeot 205 diesel, from 1992, K-reg, (I'm in the UK).
At first the car wouldn't start intermitently (it would not turn over), but if we left it 10 minutes it would be ok, the battery seemed fine. All the lights were on and not dimmed. Today however, it will not start at all. I am getting a clicking or ticking noise from the starter motor but that is all. I was told to put it in 4th and let the clutch out, then bump start it. This did not work. And when trying it again the battery seemed low. However it then recovered.

Please can you help. I have just lost my job and can not afford a major repair or to lose my car.

If your hearing a clicking noise when you turn the key but nothign happend im guessing the battary is dead. You said you tried to put it in 4th gear and then "bump start it" this wouldnt work even with a new engine. You have to either put it in 1st gear roll it foward get enough momentum (about 3-5 mph) then bump start it, or do the same but put it in reverse and push it backwards. Since you said the lights worked, then the clicking noise, im guessing its yoru alternator thats out. If you "bump start" the car and it turns on then dies then you have to change your alternator, cause the lack of one its killing the battary. You can get an alternator for about 25 bucks at the junk yard and its easy 2 fix, usually 2 bolts and a belt, good luck :D
