My 2000 ford windstar sel 3.8l 6 cyl minivan had smoke pouring in through the dash board. I immediately parked it and shut down the engine. The smoke stopped. I waited a few minutes, then tried to restart, but to no avail. Nothing, no click, no sound, nothing. I checked the main fuse block in the engine and found a 30a fuse blown. Book indicated it belonged to the starter and ignition coil. Changed the fuse, engine started, but smoke poured in again. The fuse has blown again. Checked the started with the meter, starter is ok. Need to replace the ignition coil. How?

Are you sure the coil is the problem? If you had that much smoke pouring through the dash, it sounds more like the wiring to the starter may have shorted. As far as the coil, it is just a bolt on part.

Let me know.
