The engine light came on in the van and I took it to a shop to get it looked at. They said that the diagnostic showed cylinder 1 was mis-firing. They replaced all the plugs and wires, they also said that the head gasket needed to be replaced and did that. Also they replaced the fuel injector on the cylinder that was mis-firing. The shop owner showed me the spark plugs and some {not all} were very plugged up. When we got the van back it had a lot more power then it has had in sometimes but 2 days later the engine light came back on, and now {8 days after the repairs} the van will not even idle. I have to keep my foot on the gas and my other foot on the break at stop signs to keep it from stalling out.

Sounds like it could have a vacuum leak, or problem with the IAC motor. Have you taken it back to the shop to see what they have to say? Alot of coincidince is stacking up here. Look under the hood for obvious hose leaks and check the boot from the airbox to the throttle body

It is at their shop now but they do not seem to know how to fix it other then to replace stuff and see if it helps which is not very economical. What is the IAC motor? And what/where is the "boot from the airbox to the throttle body"?

Thanks

Idle air control is usually on the intake near the throttle body (where the air goes in the engine). Which is exactly where the boot is. Goes from the air cleaner to the engine.
