Hi I am a very unhappy owner of a 1999 ford windstar. In the last year since I have owned it, it has had nothing but problems with the speedometer, odometer, transmission, cruise control, and brake system. I am beginning to wonder if this recent recall from oct. 2009 is the blame for it? If you could please let me know what problems could arise if the speed control deactivation switch was to stop working. Any of the problems mentioned could be the result of it? Thank you, any info would be great into considering discussing before I take my van in to have the inspection/repairs of the recall.

Hi Ameriana
Well I am sorry to say however these items all play a small roll with the cruise control deactivation switch.
The prob that this switch was causeing was when you brake the cruise did not shut off.

This van has a history of all the probs you mentioned and some you didn, t. Unfortuneately it just hasn, t been the vehicle that ford had hoped for, and the miles you have on the van the probs will mostlikely just get worse. Good luck billymac

The switch that was the reason of the recall failed and that failure allowed brake fluid to leak into 3 wiring harnesses located below it. If the mechanic did not check those wiring harnesses and plugs for brake fluid and or damage caused by brake fluid, they may be wet and causing the issues you described. Not only should the mechanic have checked them, but he should have replaced the harnesses if they were full of brake fluid due to this issue having caused fires and electrical issues. I did my own repairs on the brake switch and cleaned all my wiring using brake cleaner and electrical contact cleaner. Before I did, I had the same issues you are having. Hope this helps.
